Physiotherapy

 

Our three physiotherapists have extensive clinical experience treating a variety of conditions and injuries affecting athletes, workers, and all age groups from children to seniors.

 

Physiotherapy assessment involves:

 

  • an accurate history taking
  • thorough physical examination to determine the diagnosis
  • development of an individualized treatment plan
  • client education regarding the diagnosis and potential underlying contributing factors

Therapy

 

Treatment may include:

 

  • therapeutic exercises to improve spinal stability, increase strength and flexibility, and - correct muscle imbalances
  • pool therapy using either the shallow warm pool or the larger standard pool of the - - Dartmouth Sportsplex. Pool therapy is useful for improving gait, balance and restoring joint movement in a gravity reduced and safe environment
  • hands on manual therapy techniques to gently mobilize or manipulate soft tissue to - restore normal motion
  • local modalities such as ice, heat, ultrasound, electrostimulation, and acupuncture
  • fall prevention and balance training for the elderly population
  • sports specific rehabilitation programs for competitive and recreational athletes
  • work re-conditioning programs to assist injured workers back to work
  • post-surgical rehabilitation programs

 

Massage Therapy

 

We have three Registered Massage Therapists on staff that provides both relaxation and therapeutic massage. Massage therapy is a safe compliment to many medical treatments and is effective for people of all ages. It can be useful for basic relaxation therapy and to treat a variety of conditions such as:

 

  • post-motor vehicle accident injuries
  • sports-related injuries
  • arthritic conditions
  • muscle strain related to pregnancy
  • repetitive strain injuries
  • headaches and jaw pain

Massage Therapy

Custom Orthotic Services

 

A Certified Pedorthist is trained in the manufacture, fitting and modification of foot appliances and footwear to assist in alleviating pain in the lower limbs. Assessment through observation of surface anatomy and palpation of the joints, gait analysis, range of motion testing, footgear examination, and review of potentially complicating health factors are our specialty

 

Mike Daigle, CPed(C), of Maritime Foothold Orthotics provides professional biomechanical assessment of foot and ankle disorders and designs custom molded foot orthotics specific to each case. He can also provide ready-made orthopaedic shoes, modifications including heel lifts, rocker soles and custom made shoes.
