Physiotherapy: There’s a Safer Way to Manage Pain

Physiotherapy in Halifax

Our three physiotherapists have extensive clinical experience in treating a variety of conditions and injuries that affect athletes, workers, and all age groups — from children to seniors.

A physiotherapy assessment involves:

  • Accurate taking of history
  • Thorough physical examination to determine the diagnosis
  • Development of an individualized treatment plan
  • Client education for diagnosis and potential underlying factors

Your treatment may include:

  • Therapeutic exercises to improve spinal stability, increase strength and flexibility, and correct muscle imbalances.
  • Pool therapy, using either the shallow warm pool or the larger standard pool of the Dartmouth Sportsplex. Pool therapy is useful for improving gait, balance, and restoring joint movement in a gravity-reduced and safe environment.
  • Hands-on manual therapy techniques to gently mobilize or manipulate soft tissue to restore normal motion.
  • Local modalities, such as ice, heat, ultrasound, electro-stimulation, and acupuncture.
  • Fall prevention and balance training for the elderly population.
  • Sports-specific rehabilitation programs for competitive and recreational athletes.
  • Work re-conditioning programs to assist injured workers back to work.
  • Post-surgical rehabilitation programs.
