Pool Therapy: Helping Those in Halifax/Dartmouth with Joint & Spine Pain
If you enjoy a warm bath every once in a while, then you already understand a few components of pool therapy: muscle relaxation and pain relief. Aquatic therapy is useful in treating arthritis, joint pain, osteoporosis, post-surgical care, chronic pain and those who require low-impact exercise routines. Pool therapy is for all ages and abilities. Having swimming skills is not required.
Sessions are 30 minutes in length and 1:1 with our pool therapist.
Location: Zatman Sportsplex, Dartmouth

Post-Surgical Care
Support post-op exercises, increase Range of Motion, and ease tension throughout recovering muscles. Water reduces inflammation, eases discomfort and supports joints and muscles. Resistance of the water helps strengthen recovering muscles while supporting recovery.

Chronic Pain
Eases tension, reduces inflammation, and takes pressure off the joints. Increases strength throughout the core and major muscles in the body. Using both shallow and deep water techniques this can help release muscle tension and joint discomfort.
Arthritis
If you have arthritis, pool therapy allows you to exercise the joints, yet without the pain that normally follows land-based exercises. Because you are more buoyant in water, there is less compression within the joints.
Back Pain
For those with back injuries, degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, and other ailments of the spine, the reduced gravity of pool therapy can help to alleviate compression of the spine and relax tight muscles. There are also exercises available to strengthen the muscles around the spine.
